For those of you who have never heard of this game, go out and find it, gather together a group of writers, and play your little hearts out. It’s a fantastic game! There are multiple different categories: movie titles, names, acronyms, and laws. For each section, you have to write something that you think would fit whatever it was and you try to get other people to believe that it was the real definition. The laws are quite odd, the words are ridiculous, and the people are insane. Let me give you some examples.

One of the words that we got was glip. One of my friends defined it as glow-in-the-dark sippy cups for elderly people who are afraid of drowning in the dark. One of the movie titles was “Off the Beat”. While just about everyone wrote about someone who couldn’t dance very well, one of the girls wrote about a bunny who was hopping off the beat of all the other rabbits. The real movie is about some undercover librarian cop…I’m sure it’s quite an interesting movie… Among the laws were that you can’t fish while sitting on a giraffe’s neck, you can’t fish with a bow and arrow, you can’t go fishing on your honeymoon, you can’t shake out a broom from your window in NY, you can’t go out without underwear (how would anyone know?), you can’t tether your elephant to a parking meter unless you put money in it, you can’t walk your donkey down the street unless it wears a straw hat, and so many more. Note that each of these laws are from a specific state, I just couldn’t remember them. But basically, Balderdash is a super fun game, and you all should play it.
